Why We Do It

As part of Horizon Group, we share an underlying philosophy which is to serve the interests of Rwandans and foster development. It’s not just about increasing our revenues and the bottom line. Ours is a triple bottom line which focuses on contributing to social development; building environmentally sustainable infrastructure, and making profits.

Green Living

An example of this is our approach to environmental sustainability. The creation of Green Neighborhoods is high on our agenda. Through a collaborative approach with other key players, we plan to make green housing replicable across Rwanda. The benefits of this are numerous, some of which include:

• Improved living and community environment

• Reduced greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants

Contributing to Rwanda’s Social Fabric

A testament of our commitment to Rwanda’s social interests is the design and sculpting of monuments for the Campaign against Genocide Museum located at the Parliament buildings. These monuments tell the story of heroism and resilience of the people who stopped the Genocide. Horizon Construction committed its very best professional engineers to undertake this project, which is considered an important landmark in Kigali city.

A-Green-Neighbourhood-ChartOur underlying philosophy is to serve the interests of Rwandans, foster development and contribute to national efforts aimed at realizing Rwanda’s Vision 2020. Our unique characteristic is our commitment to venture into crucial sectors of the Rwandan economy, where other private players are unable or unwilling to venture or invest in.

Looking Forward

Pioneering Green Cities

In line with Rwanda’s aspirations to incorporate a green economy approach into its economic transformation – Horizon Group is engaged in a pilot project to test the feasibility of building affordable and environmentally friendly homes. The Company is currently undertaking feasibility studies together with Rwanda’s Fund for the Environment and Climate Change (FONERWA). Outcomes of this research will be incorporated into the design and construction of green homes at Cactus Green Park in Kigali – a part of the country’s Green Cities Program. The research findings will inform the construction of over 340 green homes, which will serve as a pilot for reference by other private developers.

The holding company has established a partnership with Wilderness Safaris and Albizia, for the construction of eco-lodges in Kinigi sector of Musanze district. Horizon Construction will soon embark on the construction of these eco-lodges. The concept of green living is one that we continuously strive to make a reality across the country. Alongside these efforts, Horizon Construction is pursuing ISO 14,000 certification to adhere to international environmental standards of quality management.
